Overview

The MASHS 2026 conference, “Models and Learning in the Humanities and Social Sciences”, will take place in Paris from 9 to 11 September 2026, at the Maison des Sciences économiques of Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne.

This edition will focus on interpretable and responsible artificial intelligence in the humanities and social sciences. It will address the transformations brought about by AI, in particular generative AI, in practices of modelling, learning, interpretation, writing, creation, evaluation and decision-making.

The sessions on 9 and 10 September will combine invited talks and a poster session. The day of 11 September will be devoted to the Franco-Cuban MASHS meetings, focusing on interdisciplinary applications in modelling, statistics and decision support.

The provisional programme is now available and will be updated progressively.

Call for contributions

Submissions may adopt fundamental, methodological, applied or critical perspectives. They should contribute to the dialogue between computational methods and the humanities and social sciences, with particular attention to issues of interpretability, explainability, trust, responsibility and the use of AI systems.

Submissions may address both the use of AI as a tool for analysis in the humanities and social sciences, and AI as an object of social, cultural, political or epistemological inquiry.

Poster proposals should be submitted in the form of an abstract of no more than 300 words, in French or English, together with a title, 3 to 5 keywords, and information on the authors and their affiliations. Early-career researchers are particularly encouraged to submit their work.

To facilitate exchanges with non-French-speaking colleagues, the use of English is encouraged for posters and presentation materials whenever possible.

The submission deadline is 30 June 2026. Detailed instructions are available in the call for contributions: appelMASHS2026
